Firm History

The law firm of O'Connor, Petty, Child & Piper traces its heritage to the late 1940's when the firm of Child & Child was established by George S. Child, Sr., George S. Child, Jr., and Robert M. Child. The firm name changed to Child, Child & O'Connor when John T. O'Connor, II, became a partner in 1967. The name transitioned to Child, O'Connor & Petty in 1970 with the addition of William W. Petty as a member of the firm. In 1986, the firm of Key, Lee & Layman merged with the firm of Child, O'Connor & Petty to become Layman, O'Connor, Petty & Child. In 1994, in recognition of the retirement of Earl R. Layman, the firm name became O'Connor, Petty, Child, Boswell & Piper. In 2003, the name of the firm made its final transition to its current name of O'Connor, Petty, Child & Piper.

Throughout its history, the firm has been committed to the guiding principle of seeking justice for each individual in every circumstance. While those clients include corporations and limited liability companies and partnerships, of varying size and locale, the focus of the firm has at all times been geared toward building a relationship of trust and confidence between the individual attorney and the individual, whether that person is the client, or is the shareholder, member or partner representative of the client. The relationship between the attorney and client is highly regarded and valued and the opportunity and trust which the client places in his or her attorney is not taken for granted and is highly valued. It is from this culture that justice is sought in every circumstance. Those circumstances include a variety of different types of cases. The reason being that there are a variety of ways in which the individual client may have suffered a wrong or injustice that cries out for redress and it is out of the desire to see justice done that the highest quality of legal work is inspired.
